Itinerary Zurich – St.Gallen – Davos – Lugano – Zermatt – Montreux – Interlaken – Lucerne – Zurich
STAGE 1: ARRIVAL
Collect your rental car from Zürich. Start driving from Zürich to the mesmerising Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen before you continue to charming St. Gallen.
Recommended: Exploring the Abbey of St. Gallen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
STAGE 2: ST. GALLEN – DAVOS (160km)
Driving from St. Gallen, stop off in beautiful Appenzell, known for its charming customs and traditions. Why not take a picnic with you and enjoy traditional meats and cheeses before continuing to Davos.
Recommended: An afternoon at Heidi’s Village in Maienfeld, discovering the origin’s of the beloved Swiss children’s story.
STAGE 3: DAVOS – LUGANO (250km)
The highlight of your day today is the breathtaking route you take through the wild, rugged Graubünden landscapes, past the Swiss National Park to Mediterranean influenced Lugano.
STAGE 4: AT LEISURE IN LUGANO
Relax by the pool or go for a boat trip on the lake. Alternatively join one of the free walking tours of Lugano that are offered certain days of the week by the local tourist office.
STAGE 5: LUGANO – ZERMATT/TÄSCH (265km)
Your journey today transports you from the Italian influenced Ticino up past some of the most famous landmarks in Switzerland, from the vast Aletsch Glacier to the Matterhorn towering over Zermatt.
Recommended: Stopping off at the impressive three UNESCO protected castles of Bellinzona.
STAGE 6: AT LEISURE IN ZERMATT
Enjoy this world famous high-altitude resort and explore the stunning mountain scenery – always dominated by the Matterhorn.
Recommended: The Gornergrat railway from Zermatt, for unrivalled Matterhorn views.
STAGE 7: ZERMATT/TÄSCH – MONTREUX (145km)
Take a stroll around quaint Zermatt, at the foot of the Matterhorn, followed by a charming drive through the stunning Valais to the shores of Lake Geneva and Montreux.
STAGE 8: MONTREUX – INTERLAKEN (150km)
Driving up into the golden vineyards of the Lavaux, you wind your way up around the local mountain Rochers-de-Naye and through lovely Châtel-St-Denis towards Gruyères. You enter the Bernese Oberland along the Jaun Pass, and then along Lake Thun before reaching Interlaken.
STAGE 9: AT LEISURE IN INTERLAKEN
Another world famous resort with an idyllic setting between two lakes and surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks and Alpine meadows. A relaxing lake cruise on one of the crystal blue lakes or an exciting mountain excursion is a ‘must’ in Interlaken.
STAGE 10: INTERLAKEN – LUCERNE (215km)
Today you have two options: option Bern or option Brünig Pass.
Option Bern: Depart Interlaken this morning along the shores of Lake Thun. A scenic drive through lush green forests and nature reserves takes you to the capital city Bern and on through the Emmental Region.
Option Brünig Pass: The Brünig Pass is a shorter route. En route you can stop in Meiringen – site of the Sherlock Holmes Museum and the Reichenbach Falls – before continuing to the open air living history museum Ballenberg, demonstrating the various regions of Switzerland.
STAGE 11: AT LEISURE IN LUCERNE
Why not explore the Old Town and walk across the iconic Chapel Bridge or enjoy the views from Mount Pilatus or Mount Rigi.
STAGE 12: LUCERNE – ZÜRICH (120km)
Explore Lucerne’s old town on foot this morning before driving back to Zürich via Einsiedeln, with its beautiful old monastery and town square perfect for a quick break. The afternoon drive completes your tour, taking you back to cosmopolitan Zürich.
