What it lacks in speed, this “express” makes up for with the most varied travel experience imaginable.
The journey begins in Lugano, the sun-kissed southern side of the Alps. From there a panoramic train winds its way from 470 to 1100 metres above sea level, passing through the 15-kilometre nineteenth-century Gotthard Tunnel. Upon arrival at Flüelen the mode of transport changes – glide along Lake Lucerne, passing picturesque countryside and shores on board an historic steamer. Lunch can be purchased on board. As Lucerne’s quayside approaches in the distance, spot the famous mountains of Rigi, Titlis, and Pilatus.
This journey can also be booked in reverse.
